"SPRING SOLSTICE"

Humble and traditional Portuguese Cottage located in inland Portugal, Ponte de Sor. A couple, JOANA (24) and RICARDO (26) who just woke on a beautiful March morning. As they wake up, Ricardo looks at Joana and notices some bruises that grew overnight on Joana's body, these bruises are not dark and hurtful, instead, they are colourful and shiny, covering her body in many different shapes and sizes. As they wake up and talk about these wonderful bruises and how they mysteriously show up, they share love and affection while getting ready to prepare and eat breakfast. When they sit down and start to enjoy breakfast, And Ricardo starts asking Joana about the bruises and what they may represent. Joana answers saying that the bruises might represent her best and worst experiences, the memories that shape her the way she is and proceeds to explain the memory connected to the bruise. When they finished cleaning after breakfast, they get in the car and drive towards Montargil to spend the late afternoon on a riverside beach while enjoying each other’s existence. As she lays her head over Ricardo’s legs, he realizes that a new bruise is slowly forming around the left eye, causing Joana to stand up and walk with Ricardo to seat on the sand near the water. When they sit down on the wet sand, she explains to him the struggles suffered from past relationships and self-destructive behaviour that keeps recurring after she keeps on living these memories in her head. By the end of the conversation, she tells him how good he makes her feel and thanks him for showing her again that honest feelings and intentional love are still possible. After sharing some love and affection, they get in the car and drive back home, where they share an incredibly clean and warm march evening. Ricardo mentions that he needs to leave Joana to travel back to England, where he works and lives around his family. Joanna decides to be honest with Ricardo and clarifies the reason for the new bruise that showed up earlier in the afternoon. She explains that these bruises only show up when she is alone, after a moment of vulnerability. But no one ever saw the bruises, only him, make clear the consequence of this new bruise around the eye is him. She wakes up the next morning and still half-asleep reaches for Ricardo, but he already left. As she wakes up, he left a half-folded paper stuck to the wardrobe with a small piece of duct tape. Telling her how he feels about the past couple of days spent with her.
